7Man Touch Nationals
Sixty Teams battled it out for the right to be crowned Canadian
national champs of the NFFC 7Man Touch Nationals this weekend in Markam located near
Toronto,Ontario-Canada. Canada plays 7 man one hand soft touch on a 65 yard
wide field by 110yards long field. Teams have three downs to obtain 10 yards for a
first down. No contact is allowed and the rush is 5 yards from the spot of the ball. Teams
do not have to declare a punt and one point is awarded to the kicking team if the offense
does not return the ball out of the endzone.
In the Women's A division the FlagMag/Devils won for their third
consecutive year. After winning last years championship the team was thought to be in a
rebuilding year as the devils lost seven players to retirement including their ace
Q.B.-Nancy Mantha. The Devils kept the nucleus of the team, added six key players and
created the best Q.B. in Canada; Christie Hughes. Hughes is an electrifying player
with great knowledge of the game and a great arm. She engineered the team to a near
perfect season and this past weekend played with a torn muscle in here throwing arm.
Hughes is the daughter of the legendery Brian Hughes who at 54
still plays. Christie was surrounded by a strong supporting cast of receivers, Sue
Snider,Laura Parkinson and Dawne Carle who each caught key passes throughout the
tournament. The defense played incredible, and did not give up a point in the last two
games. The defense was led by captain Michelle Lefloor and Co captain Michelle Dumel who
each had several broken up passes and rusher Dorita Kobylecki who had
several key sacks. Six Devil players are apart of the three consecutive National
Championship teams; Captain-Michelle leafloor,Co-Captain Michelle Dumel,WR-Dorata
Kobylecki,Rusher-Sarah Cohen,DB Laura Parkison and DB-Josee Bouoher. The Key
additions to this years team were WR-Dawn Carle,WR-Sue Snider,DB-Anne Louise Lock,
WR-Chris Gillanolers,WR-Sam Rapoport,and DB Lisa Kelly.
The Devils only lost two games the entire year.
In the Men's Elite Division the Rattlers defeated the
Spartans 28-13 in a rematch of last years championship, except this time the Rattlers came
out on top.The Rattlers were led by All Canadian Q.B. Bill Kubas. The Spartans were on top
13-6 when the Rattlers went on a roll scoring 22 unanswered points. In the AA Championship
the Blue Devils were hot as they scored eighty points in three games on Sunday
and crushed the Hellcats 42-18 in the championship. In the A Championship the Ottawa
Titans manhandled the Bull Dogs 46-8,The BB Championship saw the Eagles breeze by the Eh
Team 32-6, and in the
B,The Axmen defeated the Posse 25-10, while in the C Championship the Francs beat the
Titans 15-6.
The Game of the day was the Women's B Championship were both teams were
in a defensive struggle. With the game scoreless and only 13 seconds remaining Rockets
MVP-Zayna Fanfarr punted the ball in the endzone and the the Panthers were not able to
return in out giving the Rockets the Win 1-0!!!
Hey buddy, only in Canada EH!!!
The Canadian teams all appeared to be excited and ready to participate in this
years World Cup open tournament Feb 20-24th in Miami,FL.
How will the touch teams do in Flag??
Can Canada defeat the USA at the World Cup?
There is only one way to find out! No more hearsay, no more what ifs, no more excuses. Feb
20-24th is when Canada will get its chance to prove itself.
Last year, Team USA men defeated Team Canada men and women but barely.Team USA men
narrowly escaped with a 10-9 win , and Team USA women went into overtime to defeat
team Canada 19-13.
If Canada brings its best, it could be a rude awakening for the USA!!
